Jordan and Lexi came over today, they had made me a loaf of banana bread (still warm!). Jordan is 11 and Lexi is 9, and they lost their mother to breast cancer almost one year ago. You can read about it here: http://tinebean.livejournal.com/ - it was a very difficult time, and the kids have come a long way. The anniversary of their mom's death is looming, and I know it will be a very difficult day. She died July 26th, a few weeks after she turned 39. We had a little party in the hospital for her that day, knowing it would be the last birthday she would have.
I told Jordan the cake looked wonderful, and she said "It's really good - it was my Mom's recipe."
It just made my heart split in two.
