The Enemy Within

"To you, is it movement or is it action?
Is it contact or just reaction?
And you...revolution or just resistance?
Is it living, or just existence?
Yeah, you! It takes a little more persistence
To get up and go the distance"

I brought my iPod down to the basement for my workout this morning. I usually don't have any music when I swing, but I thought it would be a welcome distraction, and it was. The song lyrics are from Rush - the Grace Under Pressure album. It's a great workout song, it reminds me that I am my own worst enemy, my successes and failures are all dependent on ME.

"Pounding in your temples
And a surge of adrenaline
Every muscle tense to fence the enemy within"

Yes, I am a great big Rush geek. I'll see them in concert this summer for what will be the 7th time. The last time I saw them, I was 8 months pregnant with Addie. I got a lot of comments that night, everyone wondered if I was going to give birth to a little drummer! I can hope....

So, my workout. Let's see... 300 swings (mostly 26 and 35- and about 50 or 60 singles with the 26) 20 clean and press (total) 40 snatches (total) 10 windmills, and 30 more swings with the 26. I'm sorry, what was that? You can't add? Oh, that would be 400 reps. WOOT!

"I'm not giving in to security under pressure
I'm not missing out on the promise of adventure
I'm not giving up on implausible dreams
Experience to extremes
Experience to extremes..."

400 reps kicks ASS, that's a good hard days work compressed into one workout!!

I felt like a bad-ass, I have to admit. Especially working up to single-handed with the 26# and two-handed with the 35#! My puny little 9# is almost useless now, I really need to get an 18# for more single handed stuff.

Next stop, 500!!
